The Patron Saints

Feast of the city in honor of the patron saints of Chioggia, Felice and Fortunato, (protomartiri of the persecutions of Diocletian of 306 after Christ), the relics are located in the territory of Chioggia preserved in special urn that is carried in procession inside the village. With the occasion are set up throughout the Corso del Popolo gastronomic stends and various objects. Felice and Fortunato were two martyrs of the 4th century, venerated as saints by the Catholic Church. There is little information about the life and action of these two protomartiri, although much was written about it by local historians.

The account of their martyrdom was passed down from passio, authentic and probably written in Milan, which dates back to the 5th century. According to tradition they were two brothers originally from Vicenza, their martyrdom occurred in 303—304, during the persecution of Christians under Diocletian. They were tortured with various torments to bend their will and then beheaded outside Aquileia, on the banks of the Natissa River.
